Note! Chad Kassem has informed me there had been an error on the ad copy of the listing. This is NOT a new cut but a REPRESS of the previous AP 45 using the plates Kevin cut in 2012. Sorry for any confusion.
I look forward to your reviews Scott. They are just the right length and depth for my taste. Some others wax on and on and the videos bog down. Thanks.
Hi Brian, Thanks for your comments! I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. After experimenting with long and short lengths, I found 10-12 minutes enough to get the details across in an engaging way. Always learning, growing and perfecting!
Please see my comment pinned to the top of the comments. The listing on the Acoustic Sounds website was in error and this is a repress of the original AP 45. Sorry for any confusion.
I think so too. Its always been the first LP I pull out when I do any system changes. A reference disc that musically a joy! Glad that you took a chance on it!
Hi Jody, I see that you ordered it and wanted you to know some new info has come to me today from AP. There was an error in the listing, which they apologized for. This is actually a repress of the 2012 45 cut by Kevin. This would possibly be an issue if you already own that version. If not, get ready for a new pressing of a very desirable album. Everything reported still stand. A great record that sounds fantastic.
Hi Chris, I see you ordered it and I'm not sure you saw the new info that came to light today. I got word from AP that there was an error in the listing, and they apologized for the confusion. This is a repress of their 2012 45 using Kevin's original plates. This is possible a concern if you already own that edition. If not, everything reported here still stands! A fabulous sounding LP.
@@ThePressingMatters still waiting on my copy to get up here. Part of the price I pay for living all the way up in Alaska. I am undeterred by the fact that this is not a new addition. I’ve heard so many good reviews from my fellow audiophiles, im sure it’ll be a wonderful addition to my collection.
An interesting comparison, Scott. Many thanks! This album is on my rescue in case of emergency type list. (I guess some call it the desert island list). Mine is the 2002 Pure Audiophile Records double 33 rpm reissue halfspeed mastered by bass player and mastering legend Stan Ricker, tracks nicely spread on 3 lp sides and pressed by RTI, also made available in great sounding red or blue translucent vinyl color variants either of which sound great, and I like the bonus alternate tracks a lot, too. Simply a killer sounding album, a go-getter and an ever-keeper, admittedly personally not knowing how the AS can hold up to it. Here I am not really inclined to find out since the PA reissue is already top shelf, esp. thru my new phone preamp. PS the long gone Pure Audiophile Records release series encompass some more great treats like Karrin Allyson, Monty Alexander, Burton/Corea/Metheny … Highly recommended!
Great comment thanks! Both of these are top shelf " Records To Die For" and I treasure my Pure Audiophile edition. I love Stan's work, and if you have this version you are all set.The new one is a boon for collectors that missed out on the previous editions, and want to acquire a great version at a reasonable price.
I have both and I agree with Scott. The bass on the PA is a little too much/too sluggish (normal for half speed cuts) and possibly cut from digital due to bonus tracks and half speed. The AS rules by far, Michael Fremer also nailed this in his review.. But overall both are nice. I also have the Superanalogue and the Bellaphon Limited audiophile Edition Release, but to include them would be too much for now.
@@comeon9796 Great information and observations. I hadn't seen any other reviews before doing this, so I'm interested to check Micael’screview. Audiophiles did one too that I've since seen. It hadn't occurred to me that the PA might have been digital, but that could very well be. Thanks so much for your take on this as well.
It is interesting but perhaps the plates weren't still viable or there was a thought it could be done better. I don't know about that. I'm sure the original 45, like the Pure Audiophile, sounds amazing! With a master tape as good as this, it would be hard to screw it up. Maybe someone who has both can review them. Thanks for watching and commenting as always!
NOTE: Chad Kassem has alerted me that there was an error in the original ad copy, which has been corrected. This reissue is using the 2012 cut from the original 45 cut by Kevin Gray.
News came to me today from AP. There was an error in the listing and this is not a new cut but a repress of the 45 you already have. I hope I caught you in time and saved you $60 bucks. They apologized for the confusion.
Since I really enjoy your channel, I am subscribed and have the bell ringer activated for when your new content is released. I wasn't notified that you put out this video, but it popped up as a suggestion. Who knows what they're doing? I haven't heard Soular Energy. From your review, it sounds like a great album. I'm not sure that I'd want it in 45 rpm, maybe in 33 1/3 rpm. It's always sweet to find supremely recorded great music. Have you done any reviews on D2D vinyl? Acoustic Sounds and others have recorded these superb albums. They prove that you can have a superbly audiophile recording on 33 1/3 rpm.
I think that only the original pressing was one record at 33. The Pure Audiophile was 33 on two record so flipping involved whether you have that or the 45.
Terrific review. It’s in my cart. This channel is making me broke! Kidding. But your picks are pretty great. Thanks for turning us on to so many phenomenal records!

Scott, my bank manager needs to talk to you lol, thanks for the recommendation and video , excellent as always.
I imagine to get this release "down under" it's a cause for concern among your financial planner.
This is terrific. I missed the original re-issue. Thank you for this review.
Don't miss it. It's a beauty!
New info today in that it actually is a repress of that elusive 45 from 2012. See my pinned comment for the details.
Happy November indeed! 😊 I better order this one then.. Thank you Scott!!
I think you'll love this! Top flight stuff for sure.
Thank you for watching!

100% agree. Playing my new 45RPM right now, thinking it might be my most 'perfect' vinyl LP. Surely a go to demo disc. 😊

Thanks, Scott. Ordered.
Awesome! Let me know what you think! Thanks for watching.

Awesome. You won't be disappointed! Please come back with your impressions once you've heard it!
My copy just arrived!
Please give us your assessment! First time having this album?
@ yeah I don’t have any other versions but I’m a huge Ray Brown fan. Was lucky enough to see him perform in the 90’s.
@ Oh boy you are in for a treat!

Great as always. I have the earlier AP and treasure it. Interesting (puzzling) that AP would cut a new version by Kevin.
